Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance, and "Coach" is the professional who drives the process.
Origin of the term Coach -- Etimology.
The term is first found around the 1830's in Oxford University. The word was slang for the horse-drawn carriage taken from a hungarian term "kocs". The students at Oxford took the word to refer to their private tutor during examinations. Later, in the 1860's as sports were professionalized, the term was adopted for the head of teams in football, rugby, track and field. Towards the 1990's the use of the term evolved to the advisement of high-level executives and businesses, guiding professional careers.
Today this professional resource is available to any individual, at any stage of life, and in having a more holistic approach to the profession of "driving" life change, the term evolved to "Life Coach".

Coaching is not counseling for serious psychological or psychiatric conditions. All of the coach's suggestions are optative and any changes should be consulted with a physician if the suggested changes impact any health regimes prescribed by your doctor.
Psychological therapy and coaching, when adequately managed, can work together to considerably improve conditions or circumstances.
